Product Development Engineer

I am currently recruiting a Product Development Engineer for a manufacturing company in the metals industry, located in Montréal-Est. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with production, quality and process teams while taking ownership of the development, industrialization and qualification of new products.
Mission
Your Role :
You will play a key role in developing and improving new products across several production lines. Your main responsibility will be to translate customer requirements into safe, reliable and efficient industrial solutions.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supervising and supporting a Product Development Technician;
Supporting the onboarding and training of employees on new and special products;
Working closely with production teams to achieve operational objectives;
Acting as a technical resource for new product development projects;
Gathering customer requirements and translating them into development projects;
Planning and conducting feasibility trials directly on production lines;
Turning successful trials into safe, reliable and repeatable industrial solutions;
Preparing detailed technical reports throughout the development process;
Following new products through production and documenting manufacturing and testing procedures;
Developing specific testing methods for new products;
Leading product qualification programs and establishing performance indicators;
Participating in development meetings and production trial planning;
Reducing scrap rates and optimizing manufacturing costs;
Ensuring compliance with applicable standards and requirements;
Training production employees on newly developed products;
Supporting quality standards and inspection methods;
Preparing the technical documentation required for each product and its final application;
Working with the Process Engineer on consumables, inventory management and purchasing;
Providing effective technical support to production operations.

Your profile
Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering;
Minimum 5 years of experience in an industrial environment;
Minimum 2 years of experience supervising or managing employees;
Experience in product development or industrialization;
Strong knowledge of the physical and chemical characterization of metals;
Strong project management skills, including planning, deliverables and milestones;
Methodical approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving;
Strong analytical and communication skills;
Ability to translate customer needs into practical technical solutions;
Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills;
Innovative, proactive and results-oriented mindset;
High standards for quality and workplace safety;
Functional proficiency in both French and English, written and spoken.
Assets:
Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment;
Knowledge of melting and hot metal forming processes;
SAP experience;
Quality control experience;
Knowledge of chemical analysis methods for metals;
Instrument calibration experience;
Knowledge of filtration processes.
