Welding Quality Inspector
Introduction
Do you have a background in welding, quality inspection or metal fabrication and want to take on a role where your technical expertise directly contributes to product quality?
I’m Ella Tiberghien, Recruitment Consultant at FED ManuTech, and I’m currently recruiting a Welding Quality Inspector for a manufacturing company specializing in industrial equipment.
You’ll join a close-knit manufacturing environment where products are technically complex, fabrication standards are demanding, and collaboration with production teams is essential. Whether you already have inspection experience or are an experienced welder looking to move into quality, this role offers an opportunity to broaden your skills and take the next step in your career.
Mission
Reporting to the Quality Control Manager, you’ll play an important role in ensuring that manufactured equipment meets technical specifications and applicable quality requirements, from weld inspection through to final documentation.
Your time will be split between the production floor and office-based activities. You’ll inspect welds and assemblies, verify work against engineering drawings and technical requirements, and work directly with welders and assemblers to identify non-conformities and support corrective action.
You’ll also prepare inspection reports, maintain quality records, track welder and assembler qualifications, and contribute to hydrostatic testing and related compliance activities in coordination with the relevant stakeholders.
Beyond the inspections themselves, you’ll help maintain a strong quality culture by communicating clearly, addressing issues constructively, and ensuring that quality requirements are understood and respected throughout the manufacturing process.
Your profile
We are open to candidates with two different backgrounds:
Experienced quality inspector: You have experience in welding inspection, metal fabrication, pressure equipment, piping or a related industrial environment.
Senior welder looking to transition into quality: You have at least five years of welding experience, can confidently read technical drawings, and are interested in developing your inspection skills. Additional training may be considered to help you build the required qualifications.
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
Strong technical drawing interpretation skills.
A solid understanding of welding and metal fabrication processes.
Attention to detail, sound judgment and an analytical mindset.
The ability to communicate effectively with production teams, including when addressing quality issues.
Functional to advanced English skills to work with technical documentation and applicable codes.
Knowledge of the ASME code and experience with non-destructive testing are strong assets, although they may not be absolute requirements for every candidate. Technical training in mechanical engineering or a related field is also an advantage.
Working Conditions
Salary: $65,000–$80,000 per year, depending on experience.
Schedule: Day shift, ideally 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with some flexibility.
Location: Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec.
Employment: Full-time, permanent, unionized position.
Training: Opportunities to develop inspection skills based on your background and the company’s requirements.
Work environment: A close-knit manufacturing team, large-scale industrial equipment and direct collaboration with production and quality leadership.
