Mission

I am currently looking for a Chief Accountant for a company in the public sector. This is a permanent position located downtown, with a hybrid work arrangement offering 3–4 days of remote work per week.

Your profile

Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations and Accounting

Oversee daily financial operations (accounts receivable and payable, payroll, general ledger, and bank reconciliations)
Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial data in accordance with Canadian standards for non-profit organizations
Manage treasury and banking activities, including monitoring liquidity across all projects
Ensure compliance with Canadian and Quebec regulatory requirements (e.g., CRA filings, GST/QST, payroll remittances)
Coordinate annual audits and provide external auditors with required documentation

Budgeting and Financial Monitoring

Develop the annual organizational budget in coordination with departments
Oversee financial forecasting and planning
Monitor budget variances between plan and actuals (BVA) and report on discrepancies
Provide regular financial reports to support operational decision-making
Oversee and validate the preparation of budgets for funding applications and new initiatives
Prepare and present periodic financial reports to executive management and the Board’s Finance Committee

Grant and Donor Financial Management

Support grant management, including providing required information for proposals and amendments, and participating in negotiations
Ensure full compliance with funding agreements and donor requirements (e.g., Global Affairs Canada, United Nations agencies, and other federal departments)
Oversee the preparation and approval of financial reports submitted to donors
Monitor eligible expenses and ensure proper allocation of restricted funds
Maintain supporting documentation in compliance with audit and donor requirements
Lead and support internal and external audits of donor-funded projects

Program Support and Partner Oversight

Provide financial guidance to program teams to support budgeting, monitoring, and compliance throughout the project lifecycle
Ensure partner compliance with funding agreements and organizational policies
