Logistic Manager

We are currently partnering with one of our clients, a fast-growing international company that offers a collaborative, dynamic work environment focused on continuous improvement. The position is based on the Island of Montreal.

Mission

We are looking for an experienced Logistics Manager to oversee and optimize the company’s transportation, warehousing, and distribution activities across Canada and the United States.

Working closely with the Operations team, internal stakeholders, vendors, carriers, 3PL partners, and customers, this individual will play a key role in cost optimization, supply chain performance, and the continuous improvement of logistics processes.

We are particularly looking for someone with strong expertise in ocean and ground transportation, proven experience negotiating complex freight agreements, and hands-on experience managing and optimizing a 3PL partnership.

Key Responsibilities

Ocean & Ground Transportation
Oversee all ocean and ground transportation activities, including planning, routing, tracking, and coordination of shipments;
Develop and implement logistics strategies to optimize lead times, service levels, and costs;
Work closely with carriers, freight forwarders, and other logistics partners to ensure efficient operations across Canada and the United States;
Ensure compliance with all applicable transportation and logistics regulations and policies.

Freight Negotiation & Cost Optimization
Negotiate ocean freight rates, including rate structures such as PPS, FAK, and other applicable agreements;
Negotiate rates and terms with ground carriers and logistics service providers;
Analyze transportation costs and vendor performance;
Continuously identify and implement cost-saving opportunities throughout the supply chain;
Identify and onboard new logistics partners that align with the company’s operational needs and vision.

Incoterms & International Operations
Apply a strong working knowledge of Incoterms, particularly EXW, FOB, DAP, and DDP, to day-to-day international logistics operations;
Understand the impact of each Incoterm on transportation costs, responsibilities, risks, and the movement of goods;
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure transportation terms support both operational and business requirements.

3PL Management & Optimization
Oversee the day-to-day relationship and operations with the company’s 3PL partner;
Review and challenge existing processes to improve operational performance and optimize costs;
Monitor service levels, costs, inventory, and key performance indicators;
Oversee warehousing activities to ensure optimal storage and distribution of products and materials;
Build a strong partnership with the 3PL while maintaining rigorous performance and cost management.

3PL RFP & Transition
Contribute to the assessment and development of the company’s 3PL strategy;
Participate in or lead an RFP process for the evaluation and selection of a new 3PL provider;
Evaluate and compare proposals based on operational capabilities, service levels, and costs;
Participate in commercial negotiations and the selection of the appropriate partner;
When required, plan and coordinate the transition and relocation of operations to a new 3PL, while minimizing disruption to operations and customers.

Leadership & Operations Management
Lead the logistics team and provide the direction, coaching, and support required to achieve team goals and objectives;
Work closely with the Operations team and other cross-functional departments;
Analyze logistics data and prepare reports to identify opportunities for operational improvement;
Monitor inventory levels and contribute to the optimization of warehousing and distribution activities;
Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors, logistics partners, and customers;
Use diplomacy and sound judgment to manage and diffuse challenging situations;
Support customer satisfaction and contribute to the company’s overall operational goals.

Your profile

Minimum of a Diploma of Vocational Studies in Logistics or a related field;
Minimum of 5 years of experience in logistics or supply chain management;
At least 2 years of experience in a managerial role;
In-depth knowledge of ocean and ground transportation;
Demonstrated experience negotiating ocean and ground freight rates, ideally including PPS and FAK rate structures;
Strong knowledge of Incoterms, particularly EXW, FOB, DAP, and DDP;
Hands-on experience with the day-to-day operational and cost management of a 3PL provider;
Experience participating in or leading an RFP process for the selection of a new 3PL provider is highly desirable;
Experience with the transition or relocation of operations to a new 3PL is considered a strong asset;
Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills;
Excellent leadership and people management capabilities;
Proven diplomacy and ability to effectively diffuse challenging situations;
Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Excellent command of both English and French is required. The work environment is approximately 90% English-speaking, and the role involves regular communication with partners across Canada and the United States.
