Senior Buyer

Introduction

Hello, I’m Leila, a Recruitment Consultant with Fed Supply, specializing in temporary and permanent recruitment across supply chain, procurement, logistics, and transportation.

I am currently supporting one of my clients, a manufacturing company specializing in heavy machinery and technical equipment, in the recruitment of a Senior Technical Buyer.

Mission

This is a newly created position within a growing organization. The objective is to evolve the purchasing function from a primarily operational model toward a more strategic, structured, and proactive approach.

This is a great opportunity for a senior buyer who wants to make a real impact, develop sourcing strategies, and work closely with engineering and production teams.

Your Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manufacturing Operations Director, you will be responsible for:

Developing and structuring procurement and sourcing strategies;
Sourcing, qualifying, and developing suppliers in Canada and internationally;
Managing and developing a portfolio of strategic suppliers;
Negotiating pricing, contracts, and commercial terms;
Analyzing costs and identifying opportunities to improve savings and profitability;
Securing the supply chain and developing alternative sources for critical components;
Contributing to inventory optimization and supply risk management;
Working closely with engineering and production teams on technical requirements and components;
Supporting new product development and make-or-buy decisions;
Monitoring supplier performance and contributing to the continuous improvement of procurement practices.

Your profile

7 to 10 years of experience in procurement or strategic sourcing within a manufacturing or industrial environment;
Experience in technical purchasing, ideally within heavy machinery, industrial equipment, or equipment manufacturing;
Experience purchasing components, mechanical parts, raw materials, or outsourced manufacturing services;
Strong background in sourcing, negotiation, and supplier development, including international suppliers;
Ability to understand and work with technical drawings and blueprints;
Good knowledge of cost analysis, TCO, and inventory optimization;
Understanding of international transportation, Incoterms, and customs-related matters;
Advanced Excel skills and strong proficiency with ERP systems;
Relevant education in supply chain management, operations, business administration, or a related field;
Fluency in both French and English, written and spoken.

Beyond technical expertise, we are looking for someone with drive, leadership, and strong business acumen — a curious, autonomous, and resourceful professional who can challenge existing practices while building strong relationships with suppliers and internal teams.

Conditions
Salary: $76,000 to $100,000, depending on experience;
Permanent position – Laval;
40-hour work week with flexible hours;
2 remote workdays per week;
3 weeks of vacation from the start;
5 personal days;
Group insurance, 75% employer-paid;
Group RRSP;
Performance-based bonus program.

Do you have experience in technical purchasing within heavy machinery or industrial equipment and want to play a meaningful role in building and developing a procurement function?
